New IONBIKE paper in ACS Applied Polymer Materials

Partners CONICET-UNL, UPV/EHU-POLYMAT and University of Cambridge have collaborated in a piece of research about a biobased eutectogel that demonstrated excellent suitability as inks for VAT photopolymerization 3D printing, enabling the fabrication of structured hydrophobic gel electrodes.

End of Dr. Elena Gabirondo’s secondment at Universidade de Coimbra

Dr. Elena Gabirondo, a postdoctoral researcher at POLYMAT-UPV/EHU, has recently finished a long secondment at Universidade de Coimbra.

During her time under the supervision of Prof. Liliana Tomé, Elena focused on the development of hydrophobic eutectogels for efficient contaminant sorption from water, with an emphasis on stability and adsorption properties. Additionally, degradable Poly(ES) materials were synthesized and characterized, exploring their potential for sustainable and eco-friendly applications.

IONBIKE partners met at IMIL2024

IMIL2024 , the 7th edition of the Iberoamerican Meeting on Ionic Liquids, was recently held in Coimbra, Portugal.

This event was co-organised by IONBIKE 2.0 partner University of Coimbra and it provided great interaction opportunities for researchers engaged in various facets of ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents and associated ionic structures. 

Representatives from partners UC (Portugal), UPV/EHU-POLYMAT (Spain), DEAKIN (Australia), CONICET-UNL (Argentina) and UAM (Mexico) gathered at this networking event to share their knowledge.

Congratulations to Naroa Lopez on getting her PhD

08/11/2024

We´re thrilled to announce that PhD candidate Naroa Lopez Larrea from UPV/EHU-POLYMAT successfully defender her thesis entitled “Multifunctional and 3D printable pedot- based materials for bioelectronics“, performed under the supervision of Prof. David Mecerreyes and Dr. Nerea Casado.

The two secondments that Naroa did as part of our former IONBIKE RISE project enabled her to get an International Thesis minor at UPV/EHU.

Sahika Inal, who hosted Naroa while at KAUST (Saudi Arabia), was part of Naroa’s PhD evaluation committee.

Prof. Cristina Pozo-Gonzalo returns to DEAKIN

Following her previous secondment earlier this year, Cristina Pozo-Gonzalo from ICB-CSIC (Spain) is back at DEAKIN University this month. This time to focus on the electrochemistry and physical properties of new borates salts in organic media.

Home, sweet home

Antonela Gallastegui, a Postdoctoral Candidate at POLYMAT-UPV/EHU (Spain), is happy to be back to CONICET-Universidad de Rio Cuarto in Argentina, where she is originally from.
Antonella (centre) is depicted here with Gonzalo Cagnetta and Emilia Zambroni, former IONBIKE project secondees,  whom she spent time with in 2022 and 2023 during their secondments at POLYMAT, Spain.

During her stay, Antonela will be developing bio-based poly(ionic liquid)s from deep eutectic monomers for healing applications.

IONBIKE secondees’ reunion at Universidad de Rio Cuarto

Tijs Lap, a final year Doctoral Candidate at POLYMAT-UPV/EHU (Spain), is currently spending six weeks at CONICET-Universidad de Rio Cuarto in Argentina. 
Tijs is delighted to meet again with former IONBIKE project secondees Gonzalo Cagnetta, Emilia Zambroni and Rocío N. Abalos whom he spent time with in 2022 and 2023 during their secondments at POLYMAT, Spain.

Yuliana Pairetti visits CONICET-Universidad de Rio Cuarto

Yuliana Pairetti, a Doctoral Candidate at POLYMAT-UPV/EHU (Spain), is spending a month research stay at CONICET-Universidad de Rio Cuarto     in Argentina. During her visit, she is carrying out additional characterisations of protic ionic polymer membranes, which were synthesized at her home institution. These membranes are intended for applications in the energy sector, and her work aims to further refine their properties and enhance their potential for energy-related technologies.

POLYMAT welcomes Emmanuel Odella

Emmanuel Odella, a Posdoctoral Candidate at Universidad de Rio Cuarto-CONICET (Argentina), is currently in Spain for a 5-month stay at University of the Basque Country-POLYMAT. He is researching the development of conjugated polymer nanoparticles for 3D printing applications, as well as the synthesis of new eutectogels.

Rajat Rai visits University of Cambridge

14/06/2024

Rajat Rai, a Doctoral Candidate at UPV/EHU-POLYMAT (Spain), is currently at University of Cambridge (UK) for a 3-month stay. He is researching the application of PEDOT/Biopolymer dispersion in the field of (bio)electronics. His aim is to make electrodes out of this material for electrophysiological measurements, specifically with muscle tissue, as well as in neural implants for neural mapping.
